Last month I attended an evening hosted by the fantastic team at Tortilla in their intu Victoria Centre store to celebrate their summer special. I’ve eaten at Tortilla in the past and have really enjoyed the food so this event didn’t disappoint. We were hosted by Tortilla’s marketing team who gave us a rundown on the history of the company and all about their food whilst we tucked into chips and dips. And they treated us to frozen margaritas!
I had no idea that the company was 10 years old because it feels like they’ve been around much longer. They introduced Cali-Mex food to UK high streets and now have 33 stores nationwide, two of those being in Nottingham. All of their stores have decor which reflects the heritage of the company – from the red tiles symbolising the Golden Gate Bridge, to light features made of Corona bottles incorporating beer and the theme of sustainability.
After the company rundown, we were talked through all the aspects of the food. We were given lots to sample, from different samples to full sized burritos and quesadillas. The team made sure to cater for dietary requirements – you can totally still eat there if you’re a veggie!
The star of the show and the reason for the event was their summer special – the Gingerella Carnitas. The slow-cooked pork is infused with the Gingerella drink had the most lovely sweet yet salty taste. 10p from every Gingerella meal sold was donated to the Tim Bacon Foundation to help support the fight against cancer.
Sadly, the Gingerella Carnitas was only available throughout June so the offer has now finished. I am a big fan of Tortilla’s food generally though, so if you haven’t tried them before then definitely give them a go!
