Simple Red Lip Valentines Day Look!

Whatever your thoughts about Valentines Day, it’s coming this weekend! Personally I think there’s been a lot of negativity about it this year. Yes it’s super commercialised and you shouldn’t need a day to show someone you loved them. I tell Al that pretty much every day – but don’t we love an excuse to spoil our other half (or ourselves for that matter) whenever we can? I do!

So today I’m sharing a super easy Valentines Day ready look – red lips and all!

I’m currently using the MooGoo Full Cream Moisturiser. I didn’t expect huge things from this but it’s played a part in transforming my dull skin – I can really tell when I haven’t used it. It smells like cream and I can’t be without it at the moment! I give it about 5-10 minutes to absorb into my skin, during which time I use one of Lush’s lip scrubs to buff my lips as I’m going to be applying a bold lipstick. I’m currently using the Santa’s Lip Scrub (review here) which is the Christmas special that tastes of cola cubes – I will always stock up on this during the holidays because it’s my favourite! I’ll then apply a lip balm to hydrate my lips as I do the rest of my make up – usually whatever is to hand. After this I’ll apply the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer. I love this one because it’s a gel like texture, and it really helps to keep your skin hydrated. I’ve been using it for years and it really does help to keep my make up in place. I use the normal/combination formulation but there is a dry/sensitive one available too.

Once my primer had absorbed into my skin I began by buffing the Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation into my skin with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. This is the first bottle of foundation I’ve not only finished, but also repurchased. I’m a big fan, and you can expect a full review soon. Following this I applied my beloved Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer under my eyes and over any blemishes. I can’t express my love for this concealer – I know it’s a blogger cliche product but I haven’t found a concealer better than it! I also tend to place it down my nose and on that bit just above and in between my brows as a bit of a highlight. I always blend this in with my ring fingers because the warmth from my skin helps to blend it flawlessly before I quickly set it with the Maybelline Matte Maker Mattifying Powder.

For this look I didn’t put too much colour into my face because the lips are so bold. I used Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer very lightly as a contour, and popped the tiniest touch of the Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Vintage Pink just to add some warmth and dimension into my complexion.

First off I filled in my brows. I’m forever changing what I use but recently I’ve been loving the Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in dark. It’s a great shade match for my brows, applies without needing tonnes of pressure and doesn’t budge once it is on!

Again I kept the eyes relatively toned down because of the bold lips. I wanted to add some dimension but not so much it takes away from the lips. I used my Laura Mercier Eye Colour Duet in Topaz/Kir Royale. This is part of a limited edition palette along with the blush shade I used, but you could use any bronzy shade across your lid and smoke a dark purple through your crease to achieve a similar look. I added the colour using my Nanshy Tapered Crease Brush which is the perfect size for my crease and blended it all out using my Spectrum Blending Friend brush. I also pulled some of the bronze shade along the lower lash line to smoke it out further. I added the Natural Collection Eyeshadow in the shade Willow in the tear duct to help open up the inner eye.

To finish off I simply added a wing using the Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner in brown for a softer look and the Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara. I never wear false lashes – I find them an absolute pain in the backside to apply and keep on my face, and luckily I’ve been blessed with some pretty good eyelashes anyway. But having said this, you may want to add some falsies!

Lastly, the showstopper piece of the look – the bright red lip. For this look I used my Daniel Sandler Micro-Bubble Lipstick in Micro Red. This lipstick i super opaque, super hydrating but suffers no bleeding. Overall it’s just a lovely lip product to use – I didn’t use a lipliner on this occasion but sometimes I do with this lipstick to make my lips look extra pouty.

I was absolutely over the moon when I shared this look on Instagram because Daniel Sandler himself not only commented, but shared the image on his account. I was having a bit of a bum day thus far so it really cheered me up! So there you have it – easy, simple and perfect for Valentines Day! Obviously you don’t need to use the same products as I have – this is just what I used.

I hope if you celebrate Valentines Day with someone or with yourself you have a fantastic time – and if you don’t celebrate it have a great Sunday!
