For me, there’s only one option when it comes to my Valentines lip shade – it’s always going to be red. It’s the perfect way to ooze confidence and glamour for a special occasion.
The Pricier Tag
The Daniel Sandler Micro-Bubble lipstick in Micro-Red is the red lip I wore last year. It’s an orange toned red which really compliments a pale complexion and creates a show stopping look. Smashbox’s Be Legendary Lipstick in Legendary is easily the creamiest lipstick in this post. I’ve spoken before about how much I love this lipstick and it’s beautiful packaging, but I’ll say one more time for the record – I love it! Clinique’s Lip Pop and Primer in Cherry Pop is probably the most ‘Valentines’ red of the shades in this line up. If you’re after a highly pigmented glossier finish – this is the way to go!
And when I say ‘pricier tag’ I don’t mean bank breaking. All three of these lippies come in under £20!
The Budget Buys
Of course you don’t have to part with many pennies at all. There are tonnes of good quality lipsticks for under £10 if you know what to go for. One many of us bloggers will remember with a nostalgic smile is Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in 107. This was the first lipstick I remember there being a real hype around when I started blogging, and it’s one I come back to fairly often. Equally hyped were the Maybelline Color Drama Lip Pencils. I actually own about five different shades of these, but Light It Up is the perfect true red for Valentines.
The Liquid Lips
And of course everyone’s favourite – liquid lipsticks. We all know they’re a little more drying than their Ultra Satin Lip sisters but if you’re after a kiss proof lip on a budget, the Ultra Matte Lips from Colourpop are the way to go. Love Bug is a much deeper and dark brown toned red for a more vampy look, while Mama is a brick toned orange red. For $6 you really can’t go wrong with Colourpop lip products! If your lips can’t quite take the totally matte finish, the Sephora Lip Creams are another budget friendly liquid option. Strawberry Kissed leans much more on the pinky side of red, very much like All Fired Up from Mac.
Top to Bottom: Clinique Lip Pop and Primer in Cherry Pop. Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in 107. Daniel Sandler Micro Bubble Lipstick in Micro Red. Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Love Bug. Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Mama. Sephora Lip Cream in Strawberry Kissed. Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Legendary. Maybelline Color Drama Lip Pencil in Light It Up.
Last week I spoke about how I love Valentines Day, so when Tuesday rolls around I’ll be doing something to mark the occasion for sure. If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you may have seen my good news that I start a new job on Wednesday, so whether Ali and I get out for dinner, or whether we put that on hold until the weekend is unclear at the moment. But you can bet I’ll be rocking a red lip either way on Tuesday!
